Is It OK To Dry Scoop Your 5% Pre-Workout?

Is It OK To Dry Scoop Your 5% Pre-Workout?

Good pre-workouts are designed to help you get the most out of your training sessions. Of course, 5% Nutrition has some of the best pre-workouts on the market. Not to mention, we give you several choices, and they are geared to different experience levels. A great pre-workout should give you energy, cognitive enhancement, pumps, endurance, and performance. 5% pre-workouts do all of that, and they come in amazing flavors. So why do people dry scoop it, and is doing that OK?

Dry Scooping Your 5% Nutrition Pre-Workout - Really?

First, why do people dry scoop? Convenience - it’s faster. There’s no mixing, you simply ingest a scoop's worth of powder and chase it with a swallow of water. Now about that scoop size.

If you use Kill It, that’s a 12.5g scoop serving size. Kill It Reloaded uses a 20.5g serving. 5150’s is 13.4g, and a 5150 Stick Pack is 15.2g. Of course, Kill It RTD is a pre-made drink, and Full As F*ck is 14g. Plus, lots of people stack Full As F*ck with their stim-based 5% pre-workout.

The point?

If you dry scoop it, you're taking in a lot of ingredients - with little water.

Here’s Why Dry Scooping Is Not A Good Idea

You Need Some Water With That!

As noted, when you dry scoop it, you’re not taking much water with it. Dry scooping also gets the ingredients into your body too fast. A swig of water is just not enough - you need around 8-10 ounces of water to fully dissolve the ingredients. That’s because water is necessary for complete absorption of the pre-workout. Plus, if you’re using a potent 5% Nutrition pre-workout with a lot of caffeine (like 5150), you need to stay hydrated. Of course, you should be drinking water or preferably All Day You May before, during, and after your workout. But taking your pre-workout with water helps.

Are You Having Trouble Swallowing?

If you dry scoop it, you might have a little trouble swallowing your 5% pre. That’s because dry powder can be a little strong (hey, it's 5%, we believe in generous doses). You might find yourself struggling for air. That means the powder gets into your lungs and nasal passages and that’s an unenjoyable experience to say the least.

Who Wants Gastric Discomfort?

Ingesting a large amount of undiluted ingredients might lead to gastric discomfort. Why deal with that? Just mix it with enough water - that’s why 5% Nutrition has such sensational flavors, so you actually enjoy drinking your pre-workout.

Here’s The Best Way To Take Your 5% Pre-Workout

If you’re new to pre-workouts, or taking a 5% pre-workout that’s stronger than what you’ve been using, you should determine your tolerance first. Take half a serving with 8-10 ounces of water. Based on your tolerance, you can continue using a half-scoop, or go up to a full serving.

Remember to take your 5% pre-workout about 30 minutes before you begin training. Finally, some ingredients are more dense than others and might end up at the bottom of your container. With that in mind, it makes sense to shake it a little to mix it up before you open it.
